What is Vegan? What are the Myths?

Beyoncé and Jay Z are the latest top profile celebrities who are advocating for everyone to change to a plant-based diet in the name of global importance. They have written that “We all have a responsibility to stand up for our health and the health of the planet. Let’s take this stand together. Let’s spread the truth. Let’s make this mission a movement.” They’re not the first to turn to veganism and they won’t be the last.

Did you know that, according to a 2018 study by comparethemarket.com, it found that roughly 7% of British people are vegan and 14% are vegetarian? The vegan industry is booming, and it doesn’t look it will be slowing down any time soon.

Concerns

Many people are concerned with the nutritional factor of going vegan, for instance, how can they make sure they’re taking in the right nutrients and won’t get a deficiency if they cut out meat which they’ve eaten all their lives?

This is a myth. You can still get a healthy dose of protein from everyday vegan meals. Protein-rich vegan foods are peanut butter, porridge, 3 bean salad, beans on toast, hummus, tofu, mince, cashew or almond nut butter, quinoa etc.
