Niacinamide

Niacinamide

Niacinamide is the amide form of niacin (a carboxylic acid), also known as Vitamin B3. Niacinamide is used as a key ingredient in topical skincare products with many beneficial effects. It helps to improve the skin’s elasticity and maintain a healthy tone and texture. Niacinamide also reduces inflammation, which can help to ease redness caused by eczema and acne and minimise the appearance of pores. A study published in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science demonstrated a significant improvement in hyperpigmentation and a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles among women who used niacinamide topically over 12 weeks.

Niacinamide is also a saviour for dry skin as it helps to restore moisture loss and support retention capacity.

Niacinamide is not to be confused with niacin - these are different forms of vitamin B3!

Benefits:

  1. Improves skin tone and texture
  2. Minimises the appearance of pores
  3. Reduces inflammation and redness

Did you know…

Your body can make niacinamide from tryptophan, an amino acid present in most protein foods.

However, the conversion of tryptophan to niacinamide is inefficient, as it takes 60 mg of tryptophan to make just 1 mg of niacinamide.
