Physical well-being affects self-esteem

We often think of the mind and body as two separate worlds, but in reality they are in constant dialogue. The body is not merely a vessel: it is the primary language through which we engage with the world.

Emotions do not stay in the head. They manifest themselves in the body: in a trembling voice, in shallow breathing, in the knot in the stomach that comes before the words. What we put into our bodies also plays a role: nutrients such as collagen, B vitamins, magnesium and antioxidants contribute to the functioning of the nervous system and help the body cope better with stress.

The body speaks before words

Even before we express what we feel, the body sends clear signals. Every movement, every breath, every act of self-care tells the brain:

  • “I am looking after myself.”
  • “My body deserves attention.”

Taking care of the body promotes wellbeing

Moving, breathing better, eating well and resting activate circuits linked to wellbeing: endorphins, serotonin and dopamine, substances that influence mood, motivation and self-esteem.

Self-esteem and the body: an unbreakable bond

Self-esteem doesn’t stem solely from thoughts, but from how we treat ourselves every day. Feeling at ease in one’s body means feeling entitled to take up space, to exist, to be valued.

In short: looking after your body isn’t vanity. It’s a concrete psychological act that builds self-esteem and everyday wellbeing.
