Protein

Protein-rich foods provide a substantial amount of protein relative to their calorie content. Many also contain complete proteins, meaning they supply all nine essential amino acids that the body cannot produce itself and therefore must obtain from the diet.

  • Protein contributes to:
  • Growth and maintenance of muscle mass.*
  • Maintenance of normal bones.*
  • Production of enzymes, hormones and antibodies.
  • Tissue repair and recovery.
  • Satiety, helping you feel fuller for longer.

Beyond their protein content, foods such as salmon, eggs, Greek yogurt and lentils are often described as nutrient-dense because they provide multiple essential nutrients, including healthy fats, vitamins, minerals and bioactive compounds, within relatively few calories.

Did you know...

The human body continuously breaks down and rebuilds proteins every day. Although it can recycle many amino acids, it cannot produce the nine essential amino acids, which is why consuming high-quality protein regularly is important for maintaining muscle, supporting recovery and keeping the body functioning optimally.
