Exfoliating is a very important part of your skincare routine. You need to scrub away dead skin cells to leave behind smoother skin that can breathe and looks brighter and healthier. This also allows any creams or oils you put on to penetrate your skin better. The market is flooded with scrubs for your face, your whole body, scrubs with more beads in its, scrubs with bacteria fighting ingredients. So, you must search through all this to find the right one for your skin type.
Here is how you can maximise the ‘scrub factor’:
- Use your scrub on clean dry skin but don’t go overboard.
- The key to exfoliating is to be gentle as your skin is fragile!
- Stay away from scrubs that use micro-beads as they are bad for the environment and can be too rough on your skin.
- Don’t use a scrub more than two times a week.
If traditional face scrubs aren’t for you or you want to exfoliate more regularly then we suggest after cleansing, you use an acid exfoliating toner to help remove dead skin cells without wearing down your delicate skin. Keep an eye out for products with AHA’s (alpha hydroxy acids) like glycolic acid (from sugar canes) and lactic acid (from milk). Also look for products with BHA’s (beta hydroxy acids) like salicylic acid which is great for acne. Similar to traditional scrubs, your skincare products will penetrate better after a swipe of acid exfoliating toner.
TOP TIP: We highly recommend you don’t overwork your skin, so pick a day you’ll exfoliate and then pick another day you’ll use a toner. Don’t use both on the same day as you’ll strip your skin of its natural oils which can create problems later.
When it comes to the rest of your body, you should use homemade scrubs. The right scrub gives your skin the boost it needs to look radiant and flawless.
