Treat skin and hair right this summer with our tips, tricks and hair mask recipes


It’s June – summer is here. The sun is shining and your favourite pair of sunglasses is waiting to be used. Summer holidays are approaching and everyone is thinking of spending some time in the sun, relaxing on a nice beach far away with a cold drink in hand or taking a refreshing swim in the sea. Whilst you deserve that relaxing time in the summer sun, beware that the sun can also have damaging effects. Always prepare for sunbathing by wearing an SPF against UV damage (the higher the better) and a hat to protect your head from direct sun exposure. You might also experience your skin and hair drying out in summer due to the heat.

For gorgeous hair in the summer, try a hair mask.  Natural hair masks based on active ingredients can really help nourish hair during the summer. They are easily made at home and below are a few recipes for different needs that you can try.

  1. Shine bright

Mash a ripe avocado with one egg and apply to your hair. Leave in for at least 20 minutes, then rinse several times. Once the mask is washed off, your hair will reveal a natural shine!

  1. Moisture retaining

Honey is absolutely great to retain moisture and prevent hair from falling out, particularly because it has rich antioxidants properties. It is also emollient, which means it seals moisture in your hair, keeping it conditioned. To easily apply honey to your hair double up and mix it with olive oil.  Apply to your hair in sections until completely coated, then cover with a plastic cap for thirty minutes. Shampoo, rinse, style – easy!

  1. Dandruff – oh no!

It sounds a bit funny, but apple cider vinegar (ACV) contains nutrients which make hair stronger, shinier and generally healthier. That’s right, you can put it in your salad, but you can also use it to create a natural hair mask. It further helps regulate the pH of the scalp so is good for those of you who get dandruff. Another star ingredient to help with dandruff is coconut oil. Whilst ACV contains Ascorbic Acid (also known as vitamin C) and probiotics, which detoxify and cleanse the scalp, coconut oil conditions and nourishes the scalp, which helps prevent dry skin and therefore the creation of dandruff. To help with itchy scalp and dandruff, mix 2tbsp of apple cider vinegar with one table spoon of coconut oil and 1 tbsp. of water.  Wait for the mask to soak up for 10 minutes and rinse off. Voila!
