Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid (HA), a glycosaminoglycan derived from amino sugars, is a polymer of repeating units of N-acetyl-d-glucosamine and glucuronic acid. It is a powerful moisture-binding ingredient and an essential part of the matrix that supports our tissues. As we age, the natural production of HA decreases, so we need to find a way to top it up. HA leaves your skin feeling fresh and looking plump and helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as acting as a protective shock-absorber for joints.

Though HA is known to play a structural role in the connective tissue, its overall turnover rate appears to be surprisingly quick - it is constantly being removed and replaced in the matrix. Studies have shown that HA has a turnover rate of ~3 days. Skin HA accounts for approximately 50% of total body HA.

With ageing the levels of HA decrease and there is also a progressive reduction of the size of the HA polymers in skin.

HA is found mainly in potatoes, kale, meats, bone broth and almonds.

Benefits:
