Vitamins to keep energy levels up

Gold-collagen

My clients often as me why they feel so tired all the time and how they can boost their energy levels. I always respond with these 3 questions:

  1. Are you eating a wholesome balanced diet?

  2. What is your intake of sugar on a daily basis?

  3. Do you drink enough water?

In 9 out of 10 cases, the reason for tiredness is an imbalance in eating and drinking habits. Other than drinking plenty of water and cutting down on sugar, my advice is to increase your intake of vitamins. Here are the 3 vitamins I recommend you start with:

Vitamin B Complex

The vitamin B complex is the main group of vitamins that contribute to the energy levels. It helps your body to convert food such as carbohydrates into glucose, which is used to produce energy.

A deficiency of this vitamin can lead to feelings of fatigue and lethargy. Another B vitamin called Pyridoxine (Vitamin B6), is essential as it allows the body to use and store energy from protein and carbohydrates in food. Eat foods that include green vegetables, poultry, fish, wholegrain, seeds, nuts and bread, as they are a good supply of B vitamins.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is widely celebrated for its immune boosting functions. It is often forgotten that Vitamin C is also required for the synthesis of carnitine; a molecule that is essential for the transport of fatty acids into the mitochrondia. Therefore, it is indirectly responsible for the energy production. Vitamin C is found in a wide variety of fruit and vegetables such as: oranges, red and green peppers, strawberries, blackcurrants, broccoli, brussel sprouts and potatoes.

Vitamin K

Although the main role of vitamin K is to heal wounds and maintain bones, it has also been found to have a potential physiological role in energy metabolism, thus contributing to everyday energy levels. Found in leafy greens, green tea, kale, spinach, broccoli and brussel sprouts.
